Marble Collection, made in Substance Designer, rendered in Marmoset.
My goal for this project was to make marble that didn't just "looks like" marble, but marble that looks like specific marble types.
I started by gathering references for each type, and then reserching each of them to find out what they are made of, and how they form.
Understanding this helped me make the textures more precisely. For instance, the white veins in dark marbles are generaly calcite. This having a crystaline structure, it was necessary for me to reflect that in the texturing process.
I then found out that marble, when commercialised, is slotted into different categories depending on quality.
These categories' definitions vary from one marble to another, since one might want uniformity from one marble type, and contrast from another.
So I setup, though my parameters, presets that correspond to these categories.
